In April, our campaign turned in 225,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot. Then, in November, Colorado voters approved Amendment 79 and enshrined reproductive rights in our constitution. Here’s what’s next for us:
The fight is not yet over. Cobalt Advocates and Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR)’s work – in solidarity with thousands of Coloradans – has been essential. Together, we will continue to expand our reproductive freedoms by championing legislation that provides access to abortion care. Cobalt and COLOR have decades of experience fighting for abortion rights and will continue their role at the forefront of this movement.
Our campaign’s success was only possible thanks to hardworking volunteers across the state, Colorado voters, and our fantastic coalition members, with a special shout out to our other executive committee members – ACLU Colorado, Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, New Era Colorado, and Progress Now Colorado.
Protecting Our Rights
Colorado no longer bans state health insurance plans from covering abortion care. Now, we need to ensure what’s outlined on paper is implemented so that ALL Coloradans have access to abortion care through their insurance.
Preventing Government Overreach
With Coloradans’ abortion rights now enshrined in the state constitution, reproductive freedoms are more protected for future generations than they’ve ever been.
Protecting a Freedom
The freedom to make personal, private healthcare decisions is now protected for all Coloradans. We now must guarantee that the will of the voters is implemented by passing legislation ensuring Coloradans have access to this critical health care.
